New math hurts

Okay. I thought I had lost the lower radiator hose on my truck last night. Wrong.

It was the water pump and the fan clutch. The lower hose is crap, but it's the water pump/fan clutch that's my big problem. I'm going to have to spread the necessary repairs over the next three paychecks.

I can do the water pump and fan clutch (I think) this week. The hose on my next paycheck...then the big one of the engine mounts at the end of April.

I'm been chewing around with this and I don't want to spread it out and push the engine mounts another six to eight weeks, but that's life.

Now, having spoken to the shop...

The water pump is gone ...which contributed to the fan clutch and why the fan is rubbing the fan shroud...however, the engine mounts are far enough out of tolerance that engine is physically sagging and pulling the fan down into the fan shroud.

*sigh* Realistically, it all needs to be done at once. I don't have $1200 at one time. I just got caught up and was actually starting to *save* a little bit. Even if I don't do the engine mounts and just do the water pump/fan clutch and the cooling system flush, it's still almost 600 bucks. I have 270 to my name right now. I'm going to be posting one of my computers on Craigslist. I need it sold now. I have to have my truck fixed by Monday or I'm not going to be making it to work...which means I can't pay for the truck. Gotta love those feedback loops.

I'm wondering if I shouldn't just sell the truck for parts/scrap/whatever and take the money and get a POS car...though the loudly scraping noise now has a cause that is obvious. The truck runs fine otherwise...decisions decisions.

I'm going to see what the scrap/parts value is for the truck and see how that jives with getting a new vehicle.

More later...
