Ugh...

We just got the official announcement that the SCSU Internet connection is going to be screwed up for the next few days. They are making some connectivity changes (they call them improvements) and it should be settled down in the next three to five days.

I dunno what exactly they are doing...but three to five days to settle down connectivity issues?

They using tin can and strings? Routers by Lite-Brite?

I *really* wish this school woudl get its head out of its ass and figure out the "new" internet technology...

but I don't like 56k dialup throughput when I'm used to getting 200-400kb/sec...not 5-7kb/sec...

Oh well. Stocky Jock is recovering (slowly) as the new server information spreads across the net...

I think they have a good idea of how the Internet works, but providing connectivity for a whole University isn't like a tiny ISP.

First, consider the fact that they are part of a larger University system, and they may have to abide by policies and or contracts set by a larger organization.

Then factor in the ISP delays. Sometimes their schedule just isn't flexible, thus the date when one connection is turned off, may not necessarily match the date that another connection is turned on.

And the final note: the expertise level at Universities isn't the best. The students that a good at what they do know that they need to get the heck out of there and get a real job, which means there is a high turnover. Knowledge is lost, procedures disappear. Don't expect a high degree of stability.
