*oooh* As I type this, there is a large cluster of severe thunderstorms moving towards us from western Minnesota.
However, this has me thinking about two things:
My monitor is failing. It's occasionally turning very blue and doesn't always wake up after being put to sleep.
The other things is a piece of software that I want. Many moons ago, I purchased a license for Digital Atmosphere 2000. It is a very nice piece of meterological analysis software. At the time, it used "old" radar data which was low resolution (2mi x 2mi per pixel) and didn't do a lot of higher analysis such as upper air soundings and the such.
However, I did some digging and realized that since I purchased DA2000 I'm eligible to purchase an upgrade to the newest/latest/greatest version called Digital Atmosphere Equinox. It features full Doppler radar support, upper air analysis, and also upper air soundings between the actual upper air sites. I'm using the 60-day trial version of it and I have to say that I'm impressed with the progress that has been made with it. I don't care for the color/layout of the toolbox and such, but the core functionality works much better than the previous versions did.
I had been thinking that I'd buy Digital Atmosphere Equinox for myself as a birthday present but now I think I'll be buying a new monitor. I just have to decide if I want to go for the 17" or 19" widescreen. I was looking at "one more" CRT but after looking at the prices of LCD monitors now. Hell, I'd be crazy to consider getting a CRT. It'd only save me about $50 but it would be smaller and not a widescreen. The power savings would be a nice bonus.
I'm looking at the Acer AL1916WAB 19" Widescreen.
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for a good dependable LCD monitors?

Never tried the Acer.
Truth be told, there's probably only 1 or 2 LCD screen manufacturers, so you're probably getting the same thing as a different brand. Just make sure you can do DVI for future use.
