What is nostalgia?
From Merriam-Webster online:
1 : the state of being homesick : HOMESICKNESS
2 : a wistful or excessively sentimental yearning for return to or of some past period or irrecoverable condition; also : something that evokes nostalgia
My thought is this...
Is it a yearning to return to it...or is it the mind going back to something that was comforting and trying to find peace in it?
I mean, things I *hated* as a child, I find myself wanting...
The first two weekend of October are the Spoon River Scenic Drive. It was something that my parents always dragged me off to and as a child I hated it. Stuck in the car for hours in traffic...traipsing through flea markets and tons of food from little stands.
Now, I find myself wanting to go to it.
Some of the things I find myself nostalgic for I know are just childhood memories, probably stemming back to the fact that I'm back in Illinois...but on some other level, I'm wondering if doing some of those things wouldn't put me in a better mental place due to some comfort built into it.
Just a thought for the day...
