How many people lost monitors and other computer equipment in the three rounds of storms last weekend?
Here, all the computers as well as the router and cable modem are an a UPS (three of them actually). But none of the monitors are on the battery back up, mine is actually on the surge protection side.
My monitor has gotten quite a bit fuzzier and has a dark region in the middle of it after the last storms on Monday. I'm wondering if it wasn't a surge/spike...did we have a lightning strike close enough to throw off the internal mechanisms of the monitor such that the electron gun alignment is now just enough out of tolerance to make it fuzzy. I suspect this as you can see a bit of a color halo around text and the like.
If this one fails, I'll fall back to my 15" LCD that somewhat works in Linux.
But now, does anyone have any real suggestions on brand, durability, size, etc for a new LCD? I'm definately thinking I want to go with a widescreen as I do watch DVDs on my computer and the pricing isn't that much different.
I'm looking at X221WSD 22: Widescreen Digital / Analog LCD. Nice size, good specs, and the price is right for the size and specs.

Years ago, I spent something like $200 and purchased 7 or 8 UPSes from Belkin (back when their 12345 coupon was 50% off and shipping was a flat $20.) and I've lost two of them thanks to electrical storms.
I've also lost two answering machines (my Microsoft Phone. *sniff sniff*) but overall that's been it. *knocks on wood*
But I swear by UPSes these days to stop it. I have a few where the battery is almost completely dead, but it is still being used to stop lightning until I can afford some replacements.
Nice 22" monitor though. I have an HP 21" which is nice, though a 24" would provide a little more resolution.
